What do you think about marriage?

As a romance author, I of course believe in happily ever after. But I don't particularly believe in the marriage. To me, it's just a piece of paper.

Here are some interesting quotes about marriage:

Marriage is a three ring circus: engagement ring, wedding ring, and suffering. - Anonymous

Love is blind -- marriage is the eye-opener. - Pauline Thomason

A good marriage is like a casserole, only those responsible for it really know what goes in it. - Anonymous

By taking a second wife he pays the highest compliment to the first, by showing that she made him so happy as a married man, that he wishes to be so a second time. - Samuel Johnson

Not that I agree with all of them but what do you think?

  1. I'll take true and lasting love over marriage any day. But if you can have both, that's awesome ... rare though, it seems, the "lasting love" part.

  3. Love the one about Love is blind. Maybe the trick is not to open your eyes too wide, or not to go in with expectations of change. Being with your best friend whatever the ring or string that binds is wonderful.

  5. My s.o. is totally against "marriage" as defined by the state and church. Instead he calls me his permanent girlfriend and that's great by me!
