Why do marriages break down?

As a romance writer, I should be in the business of knowing about love and marriage. The other side of the equation is of course divorce. Guess what is the top contributing factor for a marriage to break down? It seems money is the culprit.

"We don't know for sure but we do know whenever we survey people about the factors that affect their relationship ... the top three are money, work and kids in that order," national spokeswoman Anne Hollonds of Relationship Australia said.

People change and lives move on. Is happily ever after increasingly difficult to achieve?

  1. Well...as a mystery writer first and foremost, "happily ever after" doesn't cut it for me. Death is the end and all the delightful ways I can get a character there....

  2. I think a major reason why marriages break down is that spouses don't give each other enough freedom. Just my theory >:)

  3. KK, some marriages do end up as murders. C, I agree. Some people get paranoid when their partners do their own things.

  4. It helps if the husband and wife are similar in how they handle money. Otherwise, money can be a time bomb.
